What causes shoulder pain?
Posted on:

Shoulder pain can be caused by a variety of reasons, including injuries, muscle strain, joint problems, underlying medical conditions, and postural issues. Here are some general tips for relieving shoulder pain:
Rest and reduced activity
If the pain is due to overuse or injury, it’s important to allow the shoulder to rest to allow it to heal. Avoid activities that aggravate the pain.
application of ice or heat
Use hot or cold compresses to reduce inflammation and relieve pain. Apply ice for the first 48 hours after an injury, then switch to heat to relax the muscles.
Gentle stretching and exercises
Practice gentle stretches for your shoulder muscles to improve flexibility and reduce tension. Targeted strengthening exercises can also help stabilize the shoulder and prevent future injuries.
Maintaining good posture
Poor posture can contribute to shoulder pain. Make sure you maintain correct posture when sitting and standing to reduce strain on your shoulder muscles.
Therapeutic massages
Massages can help relax tense muscles and improve blood circulation in the shoulder area, which can help relieve pain.
Over-the-counter pain relievers
If the pain is mild to moderate, over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen may help relieve pain and inflammation.
Consultation with a healthcare professional
If the pain persists or worsens despite self-help measures, it is important to consult a doctor or healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment recommendations. They may recommend additional treatments such as physical therapy, corticosteroid injections, or other options depending on the underlying cause of the pain.

Here are some exercises that may help relieve shoulder pain. It is always recommended to consult a healthcare professional before starting any exercise program, especially if you suffer from chronic pain or an underlying medical condition. These exercises should be performed gently and with control, and they should not cause increased pain. If you experience pain during an exercise, stop immediately and consult a healthcare professional.
Shoulder stretches
In a standing or sitting position, bring your right arm in front of you and use your left hand to gently pull your right elbow to the left, stretching your right shoulder.
Repeat on the other side.
Shoulder rotation
Stand up, let your arms hang naturally along your body.
Slowly, make small circles with your shoulders, rolling them backwards for 10 to 15 seconds, then forwards for 10 to 15 seconds.
Shoulder raises
Whether sitting or standing, keep your back straight.
Gently raise your shoulders towards your ears, then lower them slowly.
Repeat this movement several times.
External rotation of the shoulders
Hold a stick, a towel or an elastic band in your hands, palms facing down.
Bend your elbows slightly and keep your arms close to your body.
Slowly rotate your arms outwards, moving your hands away from your body, then slowly bring them back towards the center.
Repeat this movement several times.
Pushed against the wall
Standing facing a wall, place your palms on the wall at shoulder height.
Push gently against the wall, bending your elbows slightly, then slowly step back.
Repeat this movement several times.
Forward flexion of the shoulders
Stand up, let your arms hang naturally along your body.
Gently bend your elbows and raise your arms forward until they are parallel to the ground, then lower them slowly.
Repeat this movement several times.
These exercises can help strengthen the muscles around the shoulder, improve flexibility, and reduce pain. It is recommended to perform them regularly, but always listen to your body and avoid any movement that causes pain. If you have any concerns or if the pain persists, consult a healthcare professional.
